The sector needs to fill 700,000 jobs across Spain and still isn’t attractive enough for young people. Telemadrid analyzes this with Esther Blanco, HR Director at Alza Obras y Servicios, and Carlos Pinilla, HR Director at Wilcox

The construction sector is one of the traditional drivers of the economy in Spain. It suffered a significant slowdown during the so-called real estate bubble crisis and now struggles to find generational replacement among younger people.

We have analyzed the reasons why construction-related jobs have become less attractive to young people with Esther Blanco, HR Director at Alza Obras y Servicios, and Carlos Pinilla, HR Director at Wilcox.

Among other topics, we analyzed which professional categories are the hardest to fill, and for example, they agreed that one of the categories with the fewest trained people is that of site managers.

The construction sector can offer good remuneration, and currently, the harsh physical conditions of the past have changed due to the introduction of technology in many of the processes followed on construction sites.

Our guests argue that it is a professional activity that facilitates work-life balance due to the Monday-to-Friday working hours.

The sector is calling for the creation of a trade school to promote and provide training aimed at the various professional categories involved in construction projects.
